Food, stress and depression

dessert backStress, anxiety, memory loss, depression… These conditions are all linked to an unhealthy lifestyle and a bad diet. It’s well-known that junk food is bad for the body and the heart, and it has been proven to have a disastrous effect on the brain.

By junk food, I don’t necessarily mean McDonald’s or Pizza Hut. In the same category you’ll find chocolate bars, ready meals, industrial bread, white pasta, salad dressing, everything that is labelled ‘low-fat’ or ‘sugar free’, industrial fruit juices, margarine, sports drinks, processed so-called organic food, breakfast cereal, cake, …. the list is endless! The super ice-cream

It’s not exactly an ice-cream, but your taste-buds won’t notice the difference! Your bum, on the other hand, will … 🙂

Serves 2 (as dessert, it’s plenty!)

Ingredients :

  • Banana, one
  • Any kind of frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries), a handful
  • Greek yogurt (optional)
  • Chia seeds and/or 70% cacao dark chocolate (also optional)

The happy chocolate brownie

I was in charge of making dessert at a dinner party with a bunch a paleo crossfitters. Obviously it had to be gluten and refined-products free. So I decided to make my own – Interweb inspired – version of the chocolate brownie. I totally nailed it, and it has become my signature dessert. It’s super easy and super healthy, and most importantly it makes you happy!

Ingredients:

  • Dark Chocolate (70% cacao minimum), 150 gr
  • Almond Flour or very finely chopped almonds, 100gr
  • 3 eggs
  • Raw honey, 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut Oil, 2 tablespoons
  • Dates, 10 if they’re small, 8 if they’re chunkier
  • A handful of dried cranberries or raisins
  • A pinch of salt
  • Pecans, a handful (optional, but I like the crunch)
